Following on from my recent article, where I shared the reasons behind my shift towards growing in raised beds, I thought I would take you through exactly how I built mine here in Devon.

And importantly how I built them on a budget.

Because creating raised beds can be surprisingly expensive. From the wood used to create the structures to the compost that fills them, costs can mount up very quickly. It’s one of the main reasons I resisted making the change for so long.

In reality, whilst there was an upfront investment, it cost far less than I had anticipated. And I already know the beds will repay that investment quickly through the increased quantity and quality of flowers I’m able to grow.

Each flower that I can grow and dry myself is money saved. My hope is that the growing space begins to work harder for me, allowing the business to become more sustainable without increasing my workload.

So where to start.
